Try PgCache in one command

Run it on a laptop or dev machine against a Postgres you control. Your app changes one connection string.

  • PostgreSQL 16, 17 or 18
  • wal_level = logical
  • Docker
curl -fsSL https://pgcache.com/try.sh | bash

It's plain bash: read the script before you run it, or read the source on GitHub.

What it does

  1. Finds your database from DATABASE_URL, a .env file, PG* variables or a running Postgres container.
  2. Checks it and tells you what to fix.
  3. Starts PgCache in Docker.
  4. Prints your new connection string, and how to watch the hit rate.

Before you start

  • PostgreSQL 16 or newer.
  • Logical replication on: wal_level = logical. On RDS and Aurora, set rds.logical_replication = 1 in the parameter group.
  • A database user with the REPLICATION attribute and ownership of the tables, or a superuser.
  • Docker on the machine you run it from.
